Akt is a cornerstone of cell survival :
- Akt inhibits BAD, which activates apoptosis (pAKT blocks BAD which blocks the anti-apoptotic role of Bcl2)
- Akt inhibits GSK, and hence Cyclin D which activates cell division

Akt activation:
- is increased by stimulation of ILGFR by ILGF
- is inhibited by PTEN
The Wnt pathway is also important for its interactions with GSK, but is essentially a transcription activating route of oncogenic factors
