This is a red cell from a patient with PNH
(Paroxysmal
Nocturnal
Hemoglobinuria).
These cells lack a surface protein that
protects them against the action of the complex "COMPLEMENT" system, which is one of the normal systems that protect us against infection and  abnormal cell proliferation.
The proteins of this system are named by the initilial C followed by a number.
